Standby by for photos

(I’m just now realizing I have no serious photos of myself (or photos that don’t include my dog))

Hello! My name’s Madison.

Call me Maddie!

I write Science Fiction and Fantasy stories that are predominantly driven by complex and unique characters, immersive settings, and creative footprint (fancy way of saying I combined Catch-22 with Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and don’t know where to shelve it on the sci-fi shelf. Happens every time. And I wonder why I’m an indie author).

Anyway, I’m glad you came by! Take your coat off and stay a while!

I was born and raised in a military family and lived all over the US growing up, even a short stint in Okinawa, Japan! To this day I have a soft spot for the nihon-jin and proudly maintain my sushi snobbery.

I’ve been writing since I was nine and reading since before the dawn of time (don’t worry about the math on that one). Some of my favorite stories include Robert Heinlein’s Starship Troopers, Dan Simmons’s Hyperion, Jean Craighead George’s My Side of the Mountain, Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights, Audrey Shafer’s The Mailbox, and Diana Wynn Jones’s Howl’s Moving Castle. And those are just if I had to pick. You rest assured, J.R.R Tolkien and George R.R. Martin are very much included in this list, I just wanted to be cool and different from all the other sci-fi/fantasy authors listing their favorites.

If you want quality stories that prioritize complex character and atmosphere down to the molecular level with unique takes on familiar tropes, I’m your gal. If you want to think through your stories and analyze the details and feel like you’re there. I’m also your gal.

If you’re more of a plot-first kind of person with a preference for the cozy and/or reliably simple story structures of an adventure or an epic, I fear I might not be your gal. Take a peek and decide for yourself, of course. I’ve included some short stories, reviews, and essays at the bottom of this page for your reading pleasure.

And feel free to reach out! I’m in dire need of pen pals and have a few pretty good jokes (I think they’re funny).

Thanks again for stopping by!
